Instructions for Installing the USB to Parallel Adapter
Windows XP
1) Plug the cable into the USB port on your computer.
2) A prompt that says "Found New Hardware" will appear. Windows will then install the USB printing support driver. You do not need to install the driver from the CD.
3) Plug the cable into the printer.
4) If your printer is already installed, click on Start, then Printers & Faxes. Right click on the printer you are connecting to and click on Properties. Click on the Ports tab and check the ‘Virtual printer port for USB’ port. Click OK.
5) You should now be able to print.
Windows 2000/ME
1) Follow steps 1 to 3 under Windows XP
2) If your printer is already installed, click on Start, Settings, then Printers. Right click on the printer you are connecting to and click on Properties. Click on the Ports tab check the ‘Virtual printer port for USB’ port. Click OK.
3)You should now be able to print.
Windows 98SE
1) Plug the cable into the USB port on your computer.
2) The "Add New Hardware Wizard" will appear. Click Next.
3) Insert the CD into the CD drive on your computer.
4) Click "Search for the best driver for your device" and check the "Search removable media" box.
5) Windows will find the driver. Click Next.
6) When Windows has finished installing the driver, click Finish.
7) Plug the cable into the printer.
8) If your printer is already installed, click on Start, Settings, then Printers. Right click on the printer you are connecting to and click on Properties. Click on the Ports tab check the ‘Virtual printer port for USB’ port. Click OK.
9) You should now be able to print.
Note: Make sure you have installed the necessary software/drivers for you printer. If you haven’t installed the printer yet, click on Start, Settings, then Printers on 98SE, 2000, and ME or Start, Printers and Faxes on XP. Click Add printer. The Add Printer Wizard will assist you in installing the printer. When prompted which port the printer will use, select ‘Virtual printer port for USB’.
You can check to see if the cable is working by going into the device manager (right click on My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager). Under ‘Universal Serial Bus Controllers’, you should see ‘USB printing support’ in Windows XP, 2000, and ME. In Windows 98SE, you will see ‘USB-Parallel bridge support’. If you do not see this, try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver.
